Fanny Ghassani finally makes a comeback after a 14-year hiatus from starring in feature films. On January 23, 2025, Fanny Ghassani’s latest film, “Sebelum 7 Hari,” will be released simultaneously in Indonesian cinemas. At the Gala Premiere event at XXI Epincentrum Jakarta on January 16, 2025, the 70-year-old grandmother character in Sebelum 7 Hari revealed shocking facts during the filming process. Wow, what’s going on there?

Fanny Ghassani plays a character named Anggun, a mother who inserts a talisman into her body and makes a pact with evil spirits. Well, in the film Sebelum 7 Hari, Anggun is said to have passed away and was cast into a lake in a cave.

During the filming of that movie, Fanny admitted that weights were attached to her body so that she would slowly sink. Not only that, she had to perform the scene wrapped in a shroud!

Because of that, Fanny was gasping and terrified of drowning during the filming process. “Scary. I can’t remove the bandage,” she said.

The crew held Fanny’s body first, then slowly released her. Fanny could only remain still until the director, Awi Suryadi, decided to stop filming. “I don’t remember how long I was submerged. How cruel, Awi! No stunt doubles,” she joked while laughing.

The scene had to be repeated over and over. So many times that Fanny lost count of how many times she was forced to drown. “I can only stand up when someone tells me to,” she said.

In addition, she felt challenged to act in the horror film Sebelum 7 Hari, because she had to speak in Javanese, which she didn’t master, dance, and even sing traditional Javanese songs. “Everything, I don’t have the basics. I practiced singing three times. When I was thrown in, I also practiced first in the swimming pool,” she said.

Sebelum 7 Hari was first released on the Pijaru YouTube channel in October 2020. This short film captures the mystical atmosphere that envelops a family after the death of the mother. The setting of this story is based on the belief that a person’s spirit is still bound to the mortal world for seven days after their death. The combination of horror and emotional drama makes Sebelum 7 Hari not only frightening but also full of meaning.

In the hands of Awi Suryadi, Sebelum 7 Hari was developed into something more complex and terrifying without losing the core story of its short film. As we know, Awi is renowned for his skill in handling adapted horror works. He also holds the record as the director of the highest-grossing horror film of all time in Indonesia, KKN di Desa Penari.

Sebelum 7 Hari will explore the belief that for seven days after a person’s death, their spirit will not leave their home. Some of the cast members who will appear in this film include Agla Artalidia, Anantya Kirana, Sulthan Hamonangan, Fanny Ghassani, and Haydar Salishz.

In the short film, it is told about two children who attend the funeral of their recently deceased grandmother. While waiting for the funeral ceremony the next day, they stayed overnight in their late grandmother’s room and experienced a terrifying event.

That short film has won the Best Live Action award at HelloFest 14 as well as Best Fiction at ReelOzInd! Australia Indonesia Short Film Competition and Festival 2021.
