Actress Davina Karamoy finally faced “punishment” after appearing as a homewrecker in the film Ipar Adalah Maut directed by Hanung Bramantyo. In her latest film, Perewangan, which is released on October 24, 2024, Davina plays the role of her mother’s sacrificial child.

The story is based on a true story initially told by Eliza Sifa about an affair between a biological sister and her brother-in-law. Eliza used the pseudonyms Nisa, Aris, and Rani because the original storyteller did not want their family’s name to be revealed.

Maya and the Seven-Generation Sacrifice

However, there is one strange habit of her mother every day, which is pounding an empty mortar.
Sudarsih learned that ritual from her father. The wooden mortar is a symbol of communion with the spirits used as a charm for Sudarsih’s restaurant. In addition to the mortar, Sudarsih also inherited a large mirror called the pengilon mirror. Its function is to connect the human world and the supernatural world.
The situation of her family being under the influence of the supernatural was only realized by Maya after her mother fell ill and could not speak. A few years later, Maya began to experience terrifying terror and a series of strange events.
At first, after her father’s strange death, Maya harbored great suspicion towards her aunt and uncle who seemed to be eyeing her mother’s inheritance.
Since her father’s death, both of Maya’s uncles and aunts have increasingly shown their ambition to take control of the land and house inherited by Sudarsih. Maya chose to keep her distance from them.
Over time, the nightmares and terror experienced by Maya intensified, killing her family members one by one. Maya finally realized that what threatened her family was something more evil and cruel than human greed.
From her aunt, Maya learned that her mother had been possessed by a spirit, and that creature would demand a sacrifice from seven generations. No wonder Davina Karamoy said she was “cursed” in the movie Perewangan.
