Hana previously said that she actually wanted to take a break from acting in horror films. Because acting in horror films is very exhausting.
“At this moment, I want to take a break from horror. Because, in my opinion, acting in horror is not easy, it’s very, very exhausting,” she revealed in an interview with CGV on December 16th.
However, upon learning that the one who would direct Sorop was none other than Upi, Hana immediately changed her mind.
“My horror this year is just this (Sorop). Love Ms. Upi! If it weren’t for Ms. Upi, maybe…” she expressed.
“This is directed by Mbak Upi, and this will be her first horror film, and she also wrote the script. So this is really very interesting!” Hana continued.
Moreover, she said, the film Sorop will also be Hana’s first project with MD Pictures. That’s why the Japanese-born actress admitted she is very happy and excited to star in the film Sorop.
The actress Hana Malasan also said that working with director Upi is very enjoyable. Because, the director who previously worked on the film My Stupid Boss is very open to input from the cast and enjoys discussions. “Ms. Upi is very open to discussions,” said Hana.
In fact, Upi didn’t hesitate to revise the script to adjust the characters based on the actors’ input.
“Because the crew and the cast are very, very enjoyable, whatever mental burden we face after shooting feels lighter,” Hana gratefully said.
The film Sorop has been showing in theaters since December 19. This horror film, inspired by an unfinished thread by SimpleMan, is touted to be the scariest horror film to close out 2024.

The film Sorop, directed by Upi, is inspired by the unfinished thread by SimpleMan. Sorop tells the story of two siblings, Hanif (Hana Malasan) and Isti (Yasamin Jasem), who suddenly move into a haunted house with terror constantly lurking around them.
Their story begins when their aunt asks them to return to their hometown to visit their sick and dying uncle.
Hanif and Isti were shocked by the death of their uncle, which happened right before their eyes. After the uncle’s death, mystical terror began to occur and haunt the house. They could even see the deceased uncle come back to life. On the other hand, they also discovered the strange habit of their aunt who often ate graveyard soil.
Various abnormal events they experienced made the two siblings recall what happened in their childhood. Finally, Hanif and Isti must unravel the mystery related to their past.
