MD Pictures kicks off 2025 with its latest horror film, Sebelum 7 Hari, which has been released on January 23, 2025. Awi Suryadi, the director created the longer version of the short film with the same title, which won the Best Live Action award at HelloFest 14 and Best Fiction at the ReelOzInd! Australia Indonesia Short Film Competition and Festival 2021.
In its short film aired on the Pijaru YouTube channel, it tells the story of two children who visit their recently deceased grandmother. While waiting for the funeral ceremony, they took a nap in the late grandmother’s room and unexpectedly had to face a terrifying event.
The film Sebelum 7 Hari highlights the belief in Java that a person’s spirit still lingers in the world for 7 days after their death.
Sebelum 7 Hari begins the story with the two siblings, Tari (Agla Artalidia) and Kadar (Haydar Salish), who reunite after their mother, Anggun (Fanny Ghassani), passes away. Tari came to her childhood home with her two children, Bian (Anantya Kirana) and Hanif (Sultan Hamonangan).
Unexpectedly, the whole family had to face a confusing mystery. They found out that Anggun was cursed and could not be buried until Kamis Kliwon. The body had to wait for 7 days before being laid to rest properly. During that pause, Anggun’s family experienced terrifying events due to the dark pact binding Anggun.
They must uncover the secrets behind Anggun’s past to break the curse and reunite their family. The film, which was shot in Magelang, Central Java, has a duration of 1 hour and 47 minutes.
