The film Pabrik Gula is set to premiere in Indonesian cinemas during Eid 2025. This project marks the return of the collaboration of four individuals who successfully created the highest-grossing Indonesian film in history, KKN di Desa Penari. They are producer Manoj Punjabi, director Awi Suryadi, writer Lele Laila, and SimpleMan.
This film is set in a sugar factory in Java that harbors dark secrets. The story highlights seven young men who sign up as seasonal workers there, only to eventually face the deadly terror from the demon kingdom where the factory stands.
Pabrik Gula stars renowned actors such as Arbani Yasiz, Ersya Aurelia, Erika Carlina, Bukie B. Mansyur, Wafi Zihan, and several famous comedians like Benidictus Siregar, Sadana Agung, and Yono Bakrie.
At the celebration event for Pabrik Gula at Gandaria City IMAX, the producer, and CEO of MD Entertainment Manoj Punjabi admitted to being very impressed with the storyline of Pabrik Gula. “When I got this idea from Lele and the SimpleMan team, it brought an interesting concept because this story is often discussed on YouTube, with elements of the supernatural that are very realistic. So very real, very exciting to develop, to be filmed,” he said.
Producer Manoj Punjabi stated that the filming of Pabrik Gula lasted for a month, starting on October 30, 2024, and involving many teams and a large production.
MD Pictures is collaborating with IMAX® to deliver a maximum and impressive cinematic experience for the audience of Pabrik Gula. On Thursday, January 30, 2025, the long-awaited official IMAX® poster was released along with the official trailer for Pabrik Gula.
This is the third collaboration between MD Pictures and IMAX® after the films KKN di Desa Penari (2022) and Badarawuhi di Desa Penari (2024). Unsurprisingly, Pabrik Gula is touted as the successor to the glory of domestic horror films and a masterpiece by director Awi Suryadi.
“Pabrik Gula is a story that has captivated my attention from the very beginning. This is a deep, dark story that reveals complex mysteries and emotions. With IMAX technology, we can present every detail, from stunning visuals to a chilling soundscape,” Awi revealed.
