Carrier Journey of Deva Mahenra
Although born in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Deva Mahenra spent his childhood until high school in Papua. Specifically, when he was only 3 months old, his parents worked in Timika, Papua, so they had to move there.
Deva lived in Papua until he graduated from high school. In fact, he even became a member of the Paskibra up to the Timika District level after high school. After that, Deva continued his studies in Bali. He enrolled in the law department. Unfortunately, his education was interrupted because he got too caught up in the working world.
Deva shared that he stopped attending college because he was busy with side jobs, starting from radio broadcasting, becoming an MC, to DJing. “Moving to Jakarta when I was still finishing college, around 19-20 years old,” he revealed as quoted by detikhot.
“I didn’t pass my studies. If I graduated from college and moved to Jakarta at 22, that would be earlier, not graduated until now,” he continued.
Deva also asked the audience not to imitate him. Because he himself eventually regretted having to drop out of school. “If you have a dream or ambition, especially in education, you must pursue it until the end,” Deva advised.
Papua has become a very special place in Deva’s heart. For him, living there taught him many things and made him who he is today. Since middle school, he admitted that he had already started a band and participated in radio broadcasts.
“Papua taught me a diverse and different way of life. I learned a lot of things from Papua,” Deva said, quoted from Enzy Storia’s YouTube channel. “So all that knowledge I got from Papua, I grew up to become an artist because I was raised in Papua. If I had grown up in another city, I wouldn’t be who I am today.”
In 2007, Deva decided to audition for the fourth season of Indonesian Idol. It turns out, he also passed and made it to the top 40. Before entering the elimination stage in Jakarta, Deva had already defeated around 5,000 audition participants in Makassar.
Although his journey stopped in the top 40, from there his opportunities in the entertainment world continued to open up. Deva then ventured into acting and landed roles in several soap operas and films.
His first project in the acting world was the soap opera Saranghae I Love You in 2012. He played the role of Bara. Then, Deva also got a role in the soap opera “Pembantu dan Tukang Ojek” in the same year.
The following year, his name soared even higher after playing Abdee Negara in the feature film Slank Nggak Ada Matinya (2013). Until finally, in 2014, Deva landed the iconic role of Bastian in the NET soap opera titled Tetangga Masa Gitu? which ran for 3 seasons. NET has now been taken over by MD Entertainment and transformed into MDTV, which is ready to present a variety of quality soap operas starting in 2025.
Besides acting, Deva is also known as a talented presenter. He was trusted as a presenter on the Entertainment News and The Remix programs. Deva has also been a host on various television shows, including talent search competitions and other entertainment programs. Then on January 28, 2023, Deva Mahenra finally married his beloved, who is also an actor, Mikha Tambayong.
