The father of three is a veteran actor who has been acting since the 1980s. Egi himself admitted that he had never counted how many films or soap operas he had acted in. Because for Egi, all his works do not need to be counted.
Unlike most other actors who often choose roles, Egi rarely turns down offers if there are no scheduling conflicts. In fact, he is still willing to act in soap operas even though he is already a regular in feature films.
“I am a bit different from my other friends; they usually don’t want to take on soap operas once they have done films. That’s fair, that’s their right. If I have the time and there are stripping jobs available, I will take them,” said the actor born in 1956 during an interview with Warta Kota Production in 2022.
In his latest horror film, Sorop, which has been released on December 19, 2024, Egi plays Pakde Khair, who keeps coming back to life after his death. The secret behind the big mystery was gradually revealed in the film directed by Upi.
Egi himself, without saying much throughout the film, managed to send shivers down the spine with his appearance and aura. In fact, one word that he repeated in the film Sorop became very iconic, namely when he called his nephew with the term, “Sinom!”
Starting his career by dropping out of college at the Jakarta Institute of Arts (IKJ), and eventually being crowned as the king of Indonesian horror films, this is the story of Egi Fedly’s journey in the entertainment scene.

Carrier Journey of Egi Fedly
Born in Bandung, which is rich in arts, Egi has shown a great interest in the arts since childhood, particularly in music and theater. After growing up, he decided to take the world of art more seriously and pursue a degree in this field.
At first, Egi applied to study at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) majoring in Fine Arts. Unfortunately, he was rejected. Until finally, he chose to study in Jakarta in the mid-80s. “Initially, I wanted to enter ITB Fine Arts, but I wasn’t accepted, then I had a friend in Jakarta, so I tried to pursue it in Jakarta,” Egi told Warta Kota Production at his home in the Pondok Aren area, South Tangerang, on Sunday (7/8/2022).
At IKJ, Egi chose the Sculpture department. He studied there from around 1978 to 1984, before ultimately deciding to drop out of college to pursue his dream of becoming an artist.
When asked by a professor why Egi didn’t want to take the exam, he replied, “Because I want to be an artist. An artist is judged not by exam scores, but by society.” Egi’s adventure in the world of acting began.
However, before that, during his college years, Egi was already active in music. He even formed a country band with music legends Iwan Fals and Goemgoem, called Babadotan. They even became the first place winners and favorites at the Country Music Festival.
In addition, he also formed a humorous music group called Benclunk-Benclunk in 1979 with his college friends.
Later on, Egi leaned more towards acting rather than music. After deciding not to retake the exam at IKJ, Egi began to be offered roles in films by his friends who were preparing for their exams.
Only in 1981 did he receive an offer for a commercial film titled Tali Merah Perkawinan. His role was minor, just as a friend of the main character named Elsa. (Yessy Gusman). Over time, he also got the lead role in an FTV that aired on ANTV.
“There used to be a telesinema on ANTV, and a friend of mine, Arya Kusuma Dewa, invited me to help out. That was my first acting role, and since it was a main role, I acted genuinely from start to finish,” he said.
Egi then began to venture into the world of soap operas. His first soap opera was titled Bunga Sutra (1997), which aired on RCTI. However, he only became well-known when he played Lennox in the soap opera Saras 008 (1998-2003).
Meanwhile, the role in the big screen that further elevated Egi’s name was when he appeared as an executor in the film Ketika (2004). Since then, Egi’s career skyrocketed, especially in the horror genre.
Last year, in 2024, he became the male actor with the most appearances in horror films, totaling 8 films! His name only competed with another actor who also appeared in 8 horror films, Eduwart Manalu.
His last horror film in 2024 was titled Sorop, produced by MD Pictures. This film is an adaptation of an unfinished thread by SimpleMan, who previously created phenomenal works such as KKN di Desa Penari and Sewu Dino.

Egi Fedly: Self-Taught Acting
Although he has more than 20 years of experience, Egi admits he still has a lot to learn because he started late in the acting world. Because of that, he still often accepts many roles and tends not to be choosy.
“Some friends said or I once talked to them, they suggested I choose roles, I said, ‘I started a bit late, first. Second, I said you have reached this level (top), while I am still at this level (middle), so I am still considering all roles,” Egi told Warta Kota.
In addition, he also admitted to learning acting skills autodidactically until he eventually became an artist like he is now.
“So I believe, through the process, that art in general, becoming an artist, an actor, there are many paths, it’s not strictly through school, it can also be through courses, learning from someone, or being self-taught, I am part of the self-taught,” he said.
According to him, the most important factor for making an artist develop is their interest. As long as the interest is strong, the results will be felt.
“I don’t believe in having talent or not, because a talented child without interest won’t amount to anything,” said Egi.
