Jurnal Risa by Risa Saraswati is a horror film produced by MD Pictures that is directed by Rizal Mantovani. This Film features the Jurnal Risa family as well as big names such as Prinsa Mandagie and Sandy Pradana. Bringing the story of Samex into a big-screen movie was not an easy task as this is the entity that has left a trail of horror and chaos to Risa Saraswati’s family—which of course meant that there were a lot of preparations that had to be done before the shoot. Here, Dimas and Kakang Jurnal Risa will explain the horror in the making of this film!
Jurnal Risa by Risa Saraswati: Dimas and Kakang from Jurnal Risa Explain The Shooting Process and Mythical Ritual
Why is Samex the entity that is most feared by Risa Saraswati’s family? This was caused by the fact that this entity is still closely tied to their entire family and has brought horrors to everyone involved. Because of this fact, Risa had to ask permission from her entire family to bring this particular story to the big screen as a mockumentary film.
Aside from Ranggana Purwana and Riana Rizki felt shaken and dizzy during the process of reading the script of the film because of the presence of Samex, written below are the statements that were said by Dimas and Kakang when describing the ritual that they performed before going through the shooting process.
How did you feel when you learned that your journey was going to be adapted into a big-screen movie?
- Kakang: “I was very ecstatic.”
- Dimasta: “I was a bit nervous. We never used a script when shooting our YouTube videos, so it became quite challenging for us when a script and director were involved. But turns out, the shooting process became quite fun. Honestly, now I kind of want to start shooting more films.”
How was the initial process of you joining the production of this movie?
- Dimasta: “As this film tells the tales of the Jurnal Risa team and the entity that has always had a close relationship with our family, it was a no-brainer. We came to the office and read the script– it was a pretty long process. After that, we went to the shooting location. Our children even got involved in one scene. This really felt like a “family” thing.”
- Kakang: “Honestly it just felt like we were being ourselves in the movie. I’m very curious about how this film is going to turn out though.”
What is the ritual that was done during the shooting process?
- Kakang: “We asked permission from our grandpa. We constantly ask if the set is ‘safe’ every time we arrive at a specific location. We ask him to keep us safe. Aside from that, we prepared a ritual!”
- Dimasta: “The entity whose tale was told has always been closely attached to Risa’s family. So we always ask for permission from our grandfather.”
Were there any weird events that took place during the shooting process?
- Kakang: “There’s no specific event that really happened, we definitely felt its presence alongside us during the shooting process but then again, we were really focused on the shoot so there was no hindrance in that area. But honestly, there were a lot of events that ended up ‘inviting’ other supernatural beings to our location.”
- Dimasta: “During Prinsa’s scene where she was possessed, I don’t think she realized if she was possessed or not—but then again it might also be the impeccable method of acting that she was doing.”
- Kakang: “While we were going through the reading process, our director, Rizal Mantovani, asked if it was actually okay to mention “Samex,” Prinsa also asked the same thing. This was caused by the fact that they got body chills and migraines after the reading process. There was also a series of supernatural events that took place during the shooting process, but nothing too extreme. We all ensured that the locations were safe and that proper precautions were taken before each scene.”
Did the entity visit you guys throughout the process?
- Kakang: “The entity tried to cause disturbance amongst us even prior to the shooting process. There were still some weird events during the shooting process where we all felt, including the crew.”
- Dimasta: “Samex paid us a visit, and it realized that its existence is being brought to light.”
Did you feel culture shock transitioning from YouTube to the big screen in making this film?
Dimasta: “It’s not culture shock, but more about being directed by Mas Rizal Mantovani. I’ve watched his works, including films and music videos, and finally got to collaborate. Mas Rizal also provided inputs. So, it wasn’t rigid with the actors. Considering we’re not professional actors, Mas Rizal understands that. Maybe that’s why those of us acting in the film felt more comfortable.”
What message do you want to convey through this film?
- Dimasta: “Don’t be reckless when you know there’s an obstacle or an unwritten rule in a place or anywhere. Because we don’t know what will happen to us. Prinsa depicts that in this film. So, those who are unseen truly exist around us, and we never know what their situation might be like. Therefore, always mind our behavior wherever we are and live alongside them.”
- Kakang: “You’ll all find out what kind of figure or who should not be named. Their task is indeed to tempt and lead humans astray. They can become anything you fear.”
The cast of Jurnal Risa: Dimas and Kakang Jurnal Risa have stated that the most sacred ritual they perform is seeking permission from their grandfather regarding the figure who is the main story of the film Jurnal Risa by Risa Saraswati. Additionally, during the filming process, Samex was present. Even after filming, this figure continued to disturb Risa Saraswati’s family. Imagine how terrifying the film Jurnal Risa is.
