Closing the year 2024, MD Pictures presents the ultimate horror, the movie Sorop, an adaptation of the SimpleMan thread with the phenomenal director Upi. Sorop has been released in theaters on December 19, 2024. For those of you who haven’t been to the cinema yet, here are some reasons to watch the movie Sorop!

The film Sorop, directed by Upi, is inspired by the unfinished thread by SimpleMan. Sorop tells the story of two sisters, Hanif (Hana Malasan) and Isti (Yasamin Jasem), who suddenly move into a haunted house with a terror that continues to haunt them.
The story of Hanif and Isti begins when their aunt asks them to return to their hometown to visit their sick and dying uncle in their childhood home.
Both of them were shocked by the death of their uncle, which happened right before their eyes. After the uncle’s death, mystical terror began to occur and haunted the house. They both saw their uncle, who had died, come back to life. On the other hand, they also discovered their aunt’s strange habit of often eating graveyard soil.
Various abnormal events they experienced made the two sisters recall what happened in their childhood. Finally, Hanif and Isti must unravel the mystery related to their past.
What is there in that house? What did their uncle do during his lifetime? All the answers are revealed in the film Sorop.
MD Pictures is also collaborating with Barunson E&A, the production company behind the Oscar-winning film Parasite, for the international sales of the film Sorop, which will be launched at the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) in Busan.

The End of the Unfinished Thread Story of SimpleMan is Revealed Here
SimpleMan is famous for his phenomenal thread “KKN di Desa Penari,” which was eventually adapted by MD Pictures into a feature film and successfully garnered over 10 million viewers—making it the highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time.
After his horror thread exploded, SimpleMan began to be recognized as an outstanding horror story writer on social media. Some other horror threads written by SimpleMan include Sewu Dino and Perewangan. Both have also been made into feature films by MD Pictures with millions of viewers.
Following the success of the three previous films, MD Pictures has once again adopted SimpleMan’s thread, this time titled Sorop. Unlike the previous threads, Sorop is an unfinished thread, meaning it is not yet complete.
Starting to be written in 2019, SimpleMan ended his thread in 2020 with an unfinished ending. For those who have faithfully followed the SimpleMan thread, especially Sorop, and are curious about the ending of Hanif and Isti’s story, you will find what you’re looking for in this film.
The Sorop Script by Upi Gave Actors Chills During the Reading
One of the main cast members of the film Sorop, Hana Malasan, shared her experience when she received the project for the film Sorop.
Initially, Hana admitted that she wanted to take a break from horror films because they felt exhausting and difficult, unlike other genres. Therefore, in 2024, you will rarely find Hana acting in horror films.
However, Sorop became an exception for Hana. Sorop became the only horror film Hana Malasan in 2024. During an interview with CGV on December 16, she admitted that she accepted the offer because she knew Sorop would be directed by Upi.
In addition, Sorop became her first project with MD Pictures. Hana also recounted that the film Sorop was already scary from the script reading process.
“I remember there was one moment when we sat together, the first reading. We read each scene and could really feel it directly. We can immediately imagine what that scene would be like. And at the end of the story, because it was an unfinished thread that Mbak Upi and her team also resolved. When it was finished, we just closed it, staring blankly at each other. “THIS IS RUINED FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS!”” exclaimed Hana.
A Beautiful Horror Film with Captivating Imagery
Director Upi has directed a horror film for the first time, titled Sorop. Previously, she was known for her drama and action genre films such as 30 Hari Mencari Cinta and Serigala Terakhir.
Although this is a new experience for Upi, she successfully executed it with her signature stunning style. This was stated by one of the main cast members of the film Sorop, Yasamin Jasem.
Unlike most horror films that have a gloomy and dark atmosphere, the cinematography of Sorop is actually very pleasing to the eye with its enticing color tones.
“Sorop is visually beautiful, very eye-pleasing. Even though it’s horror, it’s beautiful. Even our clothes were made to match perfectly. Still beautiful. It’s still enjoyable to watch,” Yasamin said.
