Carrier Journey of Ratu Felisha
Before diving into the film industry, Feli first paved her way in the modeling world, winning the reader’s favorite award in the Wajah Femina selection in 2001.
The following year, she became one of the cast members in the soap opera ABG (Akibat Banyak Gaul) which aired from 2002 to 2005. After that, Feli became a regular in soap operas, such as Si Cecep, Habibi and Habibah, up to Inayah.
Her big-screen debut occurred in 2004 with the film Satu Kecupan, starring Hengky Kurniawan. In the same year, she also starred in the film 17th directed by Helfi Kardit. Meanwhile, she only started acting in horror films two years later with the film Kuntilanak. (2006).
“My first horror film was Kuntilanak with Julie Estelle, directed by Rizal Mantovani at that time… After that, Bang Nayato released horror films like Hantu Perawan Jeruk Purut, Hantu Pocong versus Kuntilanak. Yeah, horror films that only needed a week or two to shoot, like they were racing against time,” Ratu Felisha said in an interview with Voi.
Before her name became as big as it is now, Ratu Felisha admitted that she was once willing to be paid just enough to be able to act in a film she considered good. For example, in 2013, Feli opened up about the fee she received when she acted in the film Something in the Way directed by Teddy Soeriaatmadja.
“In my film with Mas Teddy, Something in the Way, I was only paid with gas,” said Ratu Felisha as quoted by Kapanlagi. “But I was proud because after that, people talked about me. Not a few also said that my acting and film were good.”
At that time, Feli acted alongside the veteran Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian. Previously, in 2008, Ratu Felisha also starred in an indie film titled Real Love directed by Olga Lidya. She played the role of a psychopathic woman.
Feli admitted that starring in an indie film brings a unique satisfaction even without a high payment. “In indie films, it’s all about inner satisfaction. Basically, I’m really satisfied here even though I don’t get paid,” she said as quoted by detikhot.
On December 19, 2024, Ratu Felisha’s latest film titled Sorop is scheduled to be released in theaters. Feli plays the character Bude Sabah, who has the mysterious habit of fasting called “sorop,” which means not eating or drinking and breaking the fast by eating graveyard soil.
The film Sorop further solidifies Felisha’s title as the Queen of Indonesian Horror. She herself admitted to being very enthusiastic about being involved in this film because it was directed by her idol, Upi.
Feli also revealed her secret to staying relevant until now in an exclusive interview with Voi. She said everything happened because of the commitment she has built all this time, which is to remain humble and enjoy every process.
“I’m not an ambitious person, I prefer the journey. So, instead of chasing goals, I enjoy the journey more,” she said. “Maybe it’s not great to be someone who isn’t ambitious, but I feel more comfortable with who I am now.” She continued.
In addition, Feli feels it is important to continuously adapt and be willing to learn in order to survive in the Indonesian film industry.
Ratu Felisha’s Personal Life, Unlucky in Love Affairs
Ratu Felisha was once involved in a legal case for hitting the boyfriend of jazz singer Andien, named Andika, in 2006. Although they eventually made peace, Feli still served a 3-month prison sentence with a 6-month probation period. Because of that case, several parties terminated their contracts with her. However, gradually Feli was able to rise again.
Then in 2008, she married a foreigner named Jules Korsten. Before they got married, Feli had already adopted a child named Dasha Godiva. Unfortunately, Feli and Jules’ relationship ended after 4 years of marriage.
In an interview, Feli admitted that at that time she was too rushed to decide to get married, which ultimately led to her inability to maintain the marriage.
Then, 4 years later, Feli married again to a lawyer named Ari Pujianto. Unfortunately, their second marriage also lasted only 4 years. They both decided to divorce in 2020.
During an interview with Venna Melinda on her YouTube account, Feli mentioned that she felt cursed because she had previously commented on her mother’s multiple marriages.
“That’s why we shouldn’t judge others, I also used to judge Mom back then. ‘Mom, how could you get married three times?’ Then my mom said, ‘Are you crazy? Who wants to get married and divorced?’ No one wants that, people want it to last a lifetime. But what can you do, it’s fate.’” said Ratu Felisha quoting her mother.
Even though she has failed twice, Feli is confident that her next marriage will be her last. “If I find and am given this third one, insyaAllah it will be the last. I just feel that the universe will give me the best. Just believe,” she said.
