Jakarta, April 10, 2025 – Pabrik Gula has become the second film this year to surpass 3 million viewers in under two weeks since its release on March 31. In addition to its grand production, the film has captivated audiences with a chilling soundtrack and score composed by award-winning musician Ricky Lionardi.
Ricky Lionardi is no stranger to the world of music. The composer, who won a Citra Award for Best Original Score for Before, Now & Then (Nana) in 2022, is known for his emotionally rich film compositions. This time, Ricky lends his talent to MD Pictures’ latest horror project, Pabrik Gula.
In this film directed by Awi Suryadi, Ricky brings his signature musical depth and intensity. His score is designed to immerse the audience in a suspenseful and eerie atmosphere throughout the film.
The score for Pabrik Gula, which blends traditional Indonesian instruments with contemporary orchestral elements, is now available on streaming platforms. Listeners can experience haunting melodies that intertwine with the film’s narrative through the official soundtrack album.
Pabrik Gula tells the terrifying tale of seasonal laborers at a sugar factory who encounter supernatural forces. The film is based on a viral thread written by the well-known horror storyteller SimpleMan, famed for works such as KKN di Desa Penari.
Premiering in Indonesia during Eid 2025, Pabrik Gula also released in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei that same week. On April 18, the film is scheduled for release in the USA.
The movie’s success isn’t limited to Indonesia—Pabrik Gula has also taken neighboring countries by storm, drawing over 1 million viewers in Malaysia within just four days.
Touted as MD Pictures’ next mega-hit, Pabrik Gula brings together the powerhouse trio behind Indonesia’s highest-grossing film of all time, KKN di Desa Penari (2022): producer Manoj Punjabi, director Awi Suryadi, and writer Lele Laila.
Pabrik Gula is available in two versions. The uncut edition includes additional scenes and is rated 21+, while the regular version is rated 17+. Audiences can choose to watch the film in standard cinemas, IMAX, or 4DX for a more immersive experience.
