Jakarta, April 16, 2025 – After successfully drawing over 4 million viewers in just two weeks of screening in Indonesia, Pabrik Gula is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on April 18.
This latest horror film from MD Pictures first opened in Indonesia on March 31, 2025. More than two weeks in, Pabrik Gula remains the highest-grossing Eid film of the year.
Before arriving in the U.S., Pabrik Gula had already gone international, with screenings in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam. In fact, within just four days in Malaysian cinemas, it had already become a box office hit there, earning over RM 1 million. Now, Pabrik Gula is scheduled to terrify American audiences in 14 theaters across cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Vista, and Tulsa.
Prior to the U.S. release, MD Pictures held a successful Pabrik Gula Gala Premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday (March 26, 2025). Notable guests included Sebastien Roché (1923), Tara Reid (American Pie), Colton Tran (The Sex Lives of College Girls), and The Conjuring screenwriter Carey W. Hayes.
“Pabrik Gula is impressive! I told Lele (the film’s writer) that it’s a great blend of horror, comedy, love, and friendship… You won’t be bored,” said Carey W. Hayes after watching the film.
Pabrik Gula tells a chilling story of seasonal workers in a sugar factory who come face-to-face with supernatural forces. The film is inspired by a viral thread written by famed horror storyteller, SimpleMan.
