Scheduled for release on December 19, 2024, Sorop, directed by Upi, features the story of siblings who are terrorized by their uncle. Yasamin Jasem plays the role of Isti, the younger sister of Hanif (Hana Malasan), who is forced to return to her hometown to fulfill their uncle’s last request.
Last year, Yasamin Jasem successfully starred in other horror films such as Khanzab and Pamali: Dusun Pocong, which became box office hits. Although she has starred in many horror films, who would have thought that Yasamin made her big-screen debut in the 2010 family musical drama titled Melodi.
Until 2019, all the films she starred in were still in the drama genre, such as I am Hope, Bangkit!, and Keluarga Cemara. Only after that did Yasamin start trying out horror films. What are they?
Debut Horror Film Yasamin Jasem in Mangkujiwo (2020)
In her horror film debut, Yasamin Jasem played the role of Hanuma in the film Mangkujiwo, a girl who is the reincarnation of an evil kuntilanak. She starred alongside artist Sujiwo Tejo and actress Asmara Abigail.
Mangkujiwo successfully recorded an audience of 834,806 people, followed by Mangkujiwo 2 in 2023. Yasamin Jasem reprises her role as Hanuma. This time, she is depicted facing the man of her dreams who is filled with vengeance.
Khanzab, Pamali: Dusun Pocong, to Kultus Iblis (2023)
Besides Mangkujiwo 2, in the same year Yasamin Jasem starred in three other horror films, namely Khanzab, Pamali: Dusun Pocong, and Kultus Iblis. Both Khanzab and Pamali: Dusun Pocong managed to surpass 1 million viewers, while Kultus Iblis only garnered 305,009 viewers during its theatrical run.
In the film Khanzab, Yasamin Jasem plays the role of Rahayu, a woman who has been haunted by the jin Khanzab since childhood. She then begins to uncover the mystery behind the deaths of her loved ones. Meanwhile, in Pamali: Dusun Pocong, she plays the character Mila, who is trapped in a cursed village due to breaking the rules.
Next, Yasamin got the lead role of Naya in Kultus Iblis. The film tells the story of Naya and her brother who receive news of their father’s death in a remote village. They both decided to return home to bury their father properly, but the father’s body mysteriously disappeared, causing chaos at the funeral.
Co-Starring with Bryan Domani in Ritual Tumbal Terakhir and Temurun (2024)
Yasamin Jasem’s sixth horror film, titled Ritual Tumbal Terakhir, is released in February 2024. She plays the role of Mayang, a tour guide in Yogyakarta.
The duration of this film is relatively short, not even 1 and a half hours. Ritual Tumbal Terakhir is a horror film that combines local beliefs with modern conflicts. Telling the story of Hans (Bryan Domani), a Dutch tourist of Javanese descent who asks Mayang for help to accompany him.
Meanwhile, Mayang’s boyfriend and archaeologist, Pram, is involved in a series of murders suspected to be linked to dark rituals at the Ki Panjang Mas tomb site.
Next, she also reunites with actor Bryan Domani in the horror film Temurun. Yasamin Jasem plays the role of Dewi, who loses her parents and lives with her brother, Sena.
After their parents’ passing, Dewi and Sena inherited a family heirloom that turned out to hold a terrifying curse that continued to haunt their lives.
Lembayung and Rumah Dinas Bapak (2024)
In 2024, Yasamin Jasem starred in five horror films. Two of them are Lembayung and Rumah Dinas Bapak.
Lembayung tells the story of a pair of nursing students named Arum (Yasamin Jasem) and Pica. (Taskya Namya). They both did their internship at a clinic that had just reopened after being closed for a long time, named Lembayung.
Everything was going smoothly until one night, a mysterious patient with long hair appeared in the dental clinic. Since its arrival, the mysterious figure has continued to haunt them even in their dreams.
Meanwhile, the film Rumah Dinas Bapak is inspired by the childhood story of stand-up comedian Dodit Mulyanto, which he recounted in various podcasts.
In general, the story revolves around the life of Mr. Dodit’s family, whose father works as a forest ranger. Dodit lives in his father’s official residence, which has many mystical occurrences, especially on Friday Kliwon nights. Here, Yasamin Jasem plays the role of Mbak Lis.

Recently, Yasamin Jasem will star alongside Hana Malasan in a horror film inspired by the unfinished thread by SimpleMan, titled Sorop. This film is scheduled to be released on December 19, 2024.
Sorop tells the story of two siblings, Hanif (Hana Malasan) and Isti (Yasamin Jasem), who suddenly move into a haunted house with a terror that constantly lurks around them.
Their story begins when their aunt asks both of them to return to their hometown to see their sick and dying uncle.
Hanif and Isti were shocked by the death of their uncle, which happened right before their eyes. After the uncle’s death, mystical terror began to occur and haunt the house. They could even see their deceased uncle come back to life. On the other hand, they also discovered their aunt’s strange habit of often eating graveyard soil.
Various abnormal events they experienced made the two siblings remember what happened in their childhood. Finally, Hanif and Isti must unveil the mystery related to their past.
What is in that house? What did their uncle do during his lifetime? All the answers are revealed in the film Sorop.
