Eliza Sifa, a content creator who tells the true story of one of her followers on social media, has suddenly become very viral since Ipar Adalah Maut was published. Initially, the original victim did not want this story to be made into a film. Over time, she agreed as long as all the names involved were disguised and the aim of the film was good—to raise awareness among the audience that in-laws can be real death.
Not only that, Hanung Bramantyo as the director of the film Ipar Adalah Maut stated that the sentence “Ipar Adalah Maut” is written in a hadith. This means that humans have been warned since the time of the Prophet. With this film, it is hoped that married parents and families will not normalize their family members living together. Because in-laws can lead to death.
Played by Michelle Ziudith, Deva Mahenra, and Davina Karamoy, this film tells the story of Nisa, who lives happily with her husband, Aris, until a storm hits their lives. Nisa’s mother cannot bear it if Rani—Nisa’s younger sister—lived in a boarding house during her college years, so her mother wants Rani to stay at Nisa’s house.
However, unexpectedly, an illicit relationship between Aris and Rani develops, especially since they already live in the same house. Even though Aris is a religious husband, he loves his family with all his heart and never thinks that anything bad will happen. In fact, Rani’s presence has shaken Aris’ faith.
